Keeping On The Sunny Side
A week ago was my Dads 74th birthday. We celebrated it "Texas style" in Dallas with smoked brisket, potatoes, and all the "fixin's." Two days later, he collapsed and my Mom took him to the emergency room where they suspected he had a stroke. After blood tests, they confirmed he has the West Nile Virus that is rampant in Dallas County right now.
The West Nile virus does not affect 80% of the people who get infected with it. The other 20% can have symptoms from mild to extremely severe. We have learned that elderly people and children are at the most risk for getting the most severe form, which is West Nile Encephalitis. That is what my Dad is battling. Eight days ago, he was healthy and strong and without any symptoms.
Since the minute he was admitted to the hospital, the Intensive Care Unit has been full of family and friends who love my Dad, a.k.a. "General Bill."
This was the ICU room today where my nephew Joe played the guitar for my Dad. My Dad has always loved to play his own guitar, and if you look really close, you can even see him tapping his foot to the music.

We appreciate your continued prayers for him. Specifically, that he would have no more seizures, and that he would pass his swallowing test today so that he doesn't have to have a feeding tube. Anyone who knows my Dad knows that he is ready to eat and drink some iced tea! :)
