The first, and probably most important, is that anything can and will be turned into an imaginary weapon. Decorations become guns, swords, and granades, you name it. (I don't encourage this by the way, but trust me, boys are born this way.)
So this one kind of caught me a little off guard.
When I got home today, I noticed that our "kids" tree was leaning a little. You know, the kids tree is the "special" tree because it has all of the beautiful ornaments the kids have made throughout the years. The exquisite ornaments that they so lovingly made and brought home from preschool each year. But something caught my eye, because the tree was different than I had left it.
I had wrapped a few Christmas presents the night before, and had laid the cardboard roll on the kitchen counter to be taken out to the recycle bin, knowing full well it would be comphiscated by the boys and re-purposed into something important, something useful, like a sword.
I had noticed that Conner had a little craft station set up in the middle of the floor this morning, and he was diligently working on something.
Apparently, the Christmas gift wrap roll that usually becomes a sword, had instead been lovingly turned into a cross. When Brandon picked up the "sword" to fight with it, Conner screamed, "No, don't touch it, that's the cross that Jesus died on!"
So, now adorning our special tree, is the most magnificent decoration ever, the cross that Jesus died on. I think it's the most beautiful cross ever.
