I do solemnly swear

Tonight at dinner, Brandon quietly came up to me and said, “Mom, I’m going to need to talk to you alone tonight.” Kind of alarmed, I said, “Well, it’s O.K. if we talk right now.” So, he came over and whispered in my ear, “Mom, I think I’m not going to get married.” Since he’s only 9, I was wondering why in the world he was even thinking about getting married. So, I asked him, “WHY?”

He said, “Well, one of my friends at school told me that when you get married, you have to swear.”

So, I jogged my memory, and thought, I don’t think you swear, I think you make a vow. So I said, “No honey, you don’t have to swear.” So, he thought for a moment, and finally said, “Oh, well then, I guess it must be that I don’t want to be President.”

At school on Tuesday, he watched the inauguration, and heard the new President say, “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

So, let it go down in the books that Brandon won’t be running for President.
I'm really glad we got that settled.
