It's Good To Walk Around On These Old Legs

“It’s good to walk around on these old legs” was Conners comment on his 2nd day home from the hospital.

So many of my sweet friends and family are asking for a Conner update, and I’m so sorry that I have been super busy taking care of “Super Conner.” So, here it goes.

Overall, he is doing really well. He started back to school at Providence this week pulling his own rolling back pack behind him. He was thrilled to get to go back to school. His determination still continues to amaze me. I only expected him to be able to stay a few hours, but he stayed the whole day.

PCCA made his first day back a really special day. The school bought him a University of Arkansas football uniform, and helmet. All of the 1st graders signed his helmet, as well as all of the PCCA teachers.

His teacher, Mrs. Bunger made him some stationery that said, “Super Conner” on the front with his Bible Verse of Isaiah 41:10: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you with my victorious right hand.”

We are so thankful to be a part of such an amazing family of Christ. Providence Academy is truly an extension of the church and operating as the hands and feet of Christ. Conner grinned from ear to ear when he got to see his friends at school.

It has been so sweet to hear the children at school, at church, and in the neighborhood tell how they have been praying for Conner. One of my friends from our neighborhood told me today that her little boy said, “Mom, when I finished my work at school, I didn’t read my book like my teacher told me to. I just put my head on my desk and prayed for Conner.” So many others have told me that for the first time they really understood the verse “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Others have said, “I’m so sorry your family had to go through this event, but it has been so amazing to see families unite to pray for Conners healing, and for the first time, really understand the power of prayer.”

Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Conner is going to occupational and physical therapy four days a week to continue to improve his movement of his right arm, and work on strength in his other muscles. He is working really hard, and it is very tiring for him, but he’s giving it everything he has. He still has occasional muscle pain, and tires easily.

Our prayer request for Conner is for continued healing of his spinal cord, and complete restoration of his health and use of his right arm. Please also pray with us that this never happens to Conner again.

Conner continues to stay positive and I have never enjoyed his spunky little personality as much as I have these last few weeks. He giggles and sings through the house LOUDLY as usual.

One of the funny comments I overheard him telling his little friends about his hospital stay was, “Oh, don’t even try laughing gas. It doesn’t even make you laugh really.” Typical Conner wisdom he’s passing along.

On his first day of doing his homework here at the house, he got out his new University of Arkansas helmet, and put it on to do his homework. He also wore his new football uniform to his first day of physical therapy. Nothing stops this little football player.

It has been such a joy watching Conners friends rejoice with him with each new milestone he reaches. Spencer Bivens threw Conner a Nerf football last night, and Conner caught it with his left hand. I think Spencer was as excited about it as I was. At school on Thursday, some of the little girls asked me if Conner was in a wheel chair. They were thrilled to see Conner walking and doing as well as he is.

We are so grateful to God for the work He is doing in Conners life. We are also eternally thankful for all of the prayers you are continuing to lift up for Conner.

Please continue to pray with us for Conner.

Super Conner emerged again this week. He came out in his cape and mask, and said, “What are my super powers anyway?” After a minute, he said, “ I think they’re strength, and speed.” Amen to that, and thank the LORD! God is good, and worthy to be praised!
